Late Night Motivation

myjaxon July 17th, 2010

I used to be such a night owl.  The focus and concentration one can achieve at 1-2am, in the dark hours of the night, is so productive.  I used to love doing things that late at night – grocery shopping, working on my websites, reading, cleaning the house.  Everything seemed to get down better and faster.  However, today, I’m remembering why I can’t do that anymore.

I’ve been wanting to revamp the layout on Literary Escapism for awhile now and last night I finally did it.  It looks fabulous, but it took me until 4am to get it to a point where I could launch it.  I haven’t stayed up until 4am in years, at least not willingly, and today I am so paying for it.  I slept in until 1pm today and now half my day is gone.  Plus all that motivation I had last night, shot to hell.  I have nothing.  I’m starting to get a little of it back by actually doing things, but it’s the actually doing things that is slow.  I was given 24 hours of complete alone time and it’s all going to be shot.  I had all these things I wanted to get done and I’m not even sure if I’ll get half of them done.

I’m guessing I have another 4 hours before the chaos ascends again, so I’m going to try and get those things done.  Wish me luck.

Didya Miss Me?

myjaxon July 12th, 2010

So yeah, I’ve been totally neglecting my blog for a long time now.  LE has been taking up a lot of my time and I’m actually loving it.  I’ve been using Facebook more and more, maybe a bit too much, so things are getting out there a little.  However, I’ve been thinking of coming back here for a couple of days now.  I may not be a regular poster, but why put up long drawn out statuses (not that I do that), when I could do it here.

So what have I been up to lately…..did I mention I’m pregnant?  Probably.  After all, I’m 8 months along (T-6 weeks and counting!), so it can’t be that new to people.  At least I hope it’s not.

Yeah, let’s just focus on today.  Today has been really productive.  I managed to get all the laundry caught up before noon (well, laundry for the living – I need to get to Simon’s now); managed to get a news post up on LE; realized that the new toy Ian picked up over the weekend wasn’t as cool as we thought it was (you’re seriously going to sell a Thomas Case that gives the impression of a portable track without an engine?!); organized Ian’s Trackmaster set to get put up on craigslist tonight; finished going through all the tubs of baby clothes and now have three separate tubs – one to be washed, one to give to Lori and one for donations.  Plus, this includes time to hang out with the monkey and his blocks.  Today has been productive.

Ian has totally been cracking us up lately.  He’s been a sweetheart (when does the other shoe drop), is going nuts over Lego Batman (he’s currently glued to my side playing it right now) and has been saying some of the greatest one liners ever.  I so wish there was a camera set up in my house 24/7 just so I could capture some of those moments.

Speaking of getting caught up, I’ve also been totally slacking on Open Source Cook, but I plan to rectify that soon.  Jesse has a new job with a bunch of the guys from EPI and I’ve already heard that my cooking has been a topic of discussion.  This is awesome because I have found a recipe I want to try before a shower next week.  I wonder when I’ll be able to send something in with him?  Do you think it would be odd to make something within the first two weeks?

Cloth Diapers

myjaxon February 13th, 2009

Has anyone ever tried switching to cloth diapers while they were potty training?

We’re trying to get Ian back into potty-training mode and he’s fixated on the characters on his diapers and I really don’t want to buy any more.  I got to thinking, why not switch to cloth diapers.  They are reusable (after washing) and they feel like underwear.  They’ll last through accidents without using rubber pants (which Ian absolutely hates and I think part of the reason he’s regressed) and it’ll cost a lot less than buying diapers.  Obviously I would still use the disposables while we’re out and about, but with Jesse having the car 4 out of 5 days during the week, we’re home far more than we’re out.

I’ve also heard of cloth diapers that have velcro already on them so you don’t have to use pins.  Does anyone know where I could find some?

Is it me…

…or has it been quite lately?

So what is everyone up to?  I’m wishing the 50 degree weather would have stuck around longer although I could have done without the wind.  I have two sick boys in the house; well, one who is starting to get his energy back and one who is finally going back to work tomorrow.  I’m about 100 pages into Desire Unchained by Larissa Ione and I feel like there is nothing going on anywhere on the internet.

Crazy Book Numbers

myjaxon October 28th, 2008

Something everyone may not know about me is that I tend to be a little too organized with my files.  That kind of includes books, CDs, DVDs, comics, etc.  Anything collectible.  I have all of our books, cds, dvds, video games, and comic books (well, I’m still working on this) in a database.  Each category has their own file and I keep a lot of info within the files.  Have you ever heard of Tellico?  It’s this great database engine that syncs up to Amazon, the Library of Congress, and a few others sites depending on what you’re using it for.  It’s great.  For example, here are all the books my family has.  Tellico so helps me with this addiction.

Anyway, we bought a house this summer and since the move, I’ve been wanting to go through and audit what books we have.  I found a used book store this summer, so I have been giving away and buying a few books over the past couple of months.  Plus with all the ones I’m getting for reviews, I’m not sure what I have anymore.  So I’m doing an audit. I’m not going to be able to do all of them simply because Jesse’s office isn’t unpacked yet.  We haven’t built his office downstairs yet, so his stuff is still in their boxes.

Here’s the first phase….what do I say I have at this point.  According to my records…

  • Ian has 59 books (3098 pages worth)
  • I have 317 books (131,305 pages worth)
  • Jesse has 178 books (71,176 pages worth)
  • and as a family we have 59 books (22,371 pages worth) – meaning books that all of us read, not just one of us.

That’s a collective total of 613 books (227,950 pages worth).  That’s a lot of books.  So here I go…once I’m done, I’ll let you know how it turned out.
